What happens now with my car?

OK, I was suppossed to get my tags by the end of Dec, but since the 31st fell on sunday this year and Monday is a holiday I went up on Friday to renew (the 29th) and unfortunantly the courthouse was closed for (end of year business). Anyway I now have expired tags and registration till tommarrow morning when I can get them. I don't live in a town that provides alternate transportation (taxis buses and such) Can anyone tell me is there a grace period, or can they stop me ticket me and throw me in jail if I drive my car, I have to work tonight in another town about 20 miles from my home. Help, I live in Kansas!
