Can someone tell me what the Leeroy Jenkins thing is about?

I read the Wikipedia article about this and I still don't get what "Internet Phenomenon" he did. How is he so famous? All he did was say Leeeerooooooooooy Jenkins. Can someone clarify? Sorry if the question is badly put. What made him so famous that he was put in Jeopardy and on a trading card?
