How to convince parents to play online?

Hi, I recently moved cross country and I had a friend whose parents don't want him online. They said that online gaming is a dangerous place or something. Which I agree with online you can hear or see stuff that's profanity or something. All we want to do though is play MW2 on a private match. When he brings it up nothing happens, or they say it could get a Virus or something like that. What could we say to make them realize that online isn't all that bad? We went to each others house ever other day so we're familiar with each other I also knew him for 2 years.
